The azores are a paradise for hikers. We love to explore the country by that way as well... when we are not chased by a snarling dog. Unfortunately we saw a lot of dogs on a chain. I really hate this. Therefore I was full of joy, when I saw somebody walking with his dog along the street. This sweet dog reminded me on Boomer, but I was completely wrong. When we turned around the corner suddenly the dog returned without its owner, barking and growling and we were really afraid that he would bite us. We tried to ignor it, but he was so threatening and came very close that we could only defend ourself with a bamboo stick (of course we didn't hit him, but we kept him on distance). I really love dogs and very seldom I am afraid of one, but this was a little monster. But however, we survived it and now let's get back to the topic:
The most beautiful tour we started at a little village at the sea, called Faial da Terra.
Soon after we left the last houses behind us, we had the feeling of stepping into another world.
The way went all up high into the hills. The air felt damp and hot and it somehow reminded me on hiking in the middle of a greenhouse. However, the flora was so beautiful and wild that we all forgot about the sweat.
And suddenly there was a cock standing in the middle of our way and then a chicken turned up and after that some more chickens... in the middle of the wild. At the end they were about six chickens. They seem to enjoy their life and were absolutely not afraid from hikers. We watched them awhile, before we continued our tour.
Then we reached our destination: the awesome Salto do Prego!
Some other guys swam under the waterfall, but *brrr* the water was quite cold. Not to my taste. I prefered just relaxing and enjoying this beautiful sight.
After that we walked on. Hydrangeas grow there everywhere, indeed.
Bald schon hatten wir das herzige Dörfchen Sanguinho erreicht.
Then we reached the little hamlet Sanguinho.
From there it went back down to Faial da Terra.
Oh well, the way was very steep, even if you can't see it on this photo. But back in Faial the refreshing sea and a well deserved ice cream was waiting for us. If you visit the azores, you really should do this tour. It's absolutely beautiful and with only two hours not a big challenge.
Nächstes Mal gibt es dann ein bisschen mehr vom Meer.
Next time, you will see a little bit more of the sea.
Bis bald / See you soon
